Appraiser I Job at Chatham County, NC – in Pittsboro, NC

Under general supervision, performs technical work in appraising land, residential buildings, commercial and industrial buildings, and building improvements for tax assessment purposes. Work involves contacting property owners; sketching layouts of structures; and determining the square footage, type of construction, grade of materials, quality of workmanship and other related appraisal data needed to arrive at the taxable value. Employee is responsible for computing and pricing lot sizes, new construction, subdivisions, and review survey maps. Reports to the Assistant Tax Administrator.

Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work in real estate or tax appraisal and 1 to 2 years of experience in work associated with construction or real estate work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Comprehension of reading maps, aerial photographs, and understanding deed descriptions. Certification as a real property appraiser by the Property Tax Division of the NC Department of Revenue preferred. Certification as a real property appraiser by the Ad Valorem Tax Division of the North Carolina Department of Revenue within the first 2 years of employment. Certification in IAAO training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is desired. Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Salary:
$41,897-$53,417; Grade 61 ( DOQ)
