Position: Assistant Compliance Officer I

Department: Compliance

Reports To: Compliance Officer

FLSA: Non-Exempt Grade: 10

Summary

Assists with the research, development, and enforcement of the credit union’s regulatory compliance program to ensure new and existing programs, products and services meet applicable regulatory requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None

Essential Functions

Assists the Compliance Officer with regulatory compliance issues, including but not limited to research, analysis and team member training.

Assists the Compliance Officer in Bank Secrecy Act compliance, including performing periodic testing of applicable areas, remaining current of any changes and additions that effect applicable statutes affecting the credit union’s operations.

Assists the Compliance Officer in ensuring that new programs, products and services meet with applicable regulatory requirements.

Performs continuing reviews of all areas, to determine level of compliance with applicable regulations. Identifies problem compliance areas, suggests solutions and helps implement same.

Assures records required for recovery are identified and properly maintained.

Provides assistance to branch personnel when dealing with Trusts, Guardianships, Conservatorships, Estates, Powers of Attorney, etc.

Responsible for compliance with all Federal regulations including Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)

Utilizes The Member Advantage AIDINC system to identify potential member (internal or external) service needs which can be met through the sale of credit union products and services, or adherence to the department’s policy and procedures.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

Remains current on any changes and/or additions that may affect applicable statutes that influence the credit union’s compliance standing.

Performs other duties and provides assistance in other areas, as needed.

Qualifications

Education

(1) A two-year college degree or equivalent or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.

Experience and Other Requirements

Three to five years financial institution experience required.

Experience in compliance functions preferred.

A combination of training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the functions of the position required.

Initiative to routinely put forth extra effort to ensure confidentiality and dependability.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to write memorandums to all levels of senior management on complex compliance subjects.

Overtime may be required as the workload may require.

Ability to work cooperatively with all levels of team members and management.

Accuracy and attention to detail.

Must be a self-starter with ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Must possess in-depth analytical skills.

Interpersonal Skills

Courtesy, tact and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.

Computer Skills

Experience with spreadsheet and word processing software required.

Experience with e-mail software and use of the Internet preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO) preferred.
