The Assistant Controller reports to the Controller, supervising accounts payable and purchasing and other accountants as well as providing ongoing maintenance and evaluation of the integrity of accounting systems.
Assist and Review staff accountant work
Perform ad hoc tasks as needed
Maintain PBC list of audits and work with the auditor on an annual and quarterly basis.
Prepare other executive reporting requests.
Partner with the Finance team to communicate accounting results and variances
Reviews A/P coding of all invoices for accuracy before transactions are posted to the A/P module
Assists with monthly fluctuation analysis of P&L’s by Location and Line of Business and investigates the cause of any unusual variances
Assist with budget process
Post customer checks, vendor and ACH payments
Prepare weekly cash flow forecast
Reviews all current accounting processes and workflows on a recurring basis, and if necessary, independently recommend changes to achieve more efficient and productive results
Manages the implementation of all process and workflow changes from start to finish
Incorporates a lean approach to problem-solving and process improvement
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance (master’s preferred)
At least 5-7 years’ experience in accounting; in a higher education platform is preferred
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Highly skilled in math, accounting and financial processes
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Detail oriented and highly organized
Skilled in time management and the ability to prioritize tasks
Excellent critical thinking skills
Demonstrates a commitment to fostering and maintaining a diverse, equitable and inclusive workplace
Solid understanding of GAAP and applicable regulations
Experience with MIP system is preferred
