Assistant Controller Job at Craig Hospital – 4.3 in Englewood, CO
The Assistant Controller is responsible for the specially assigned responsibilities delegated by the Controller and the Vice President of Finance including budget analysis and monthly updates, departmental reports, general ledger activities involving monthly and year-end closings, preparation of work papers for outside financial statement auditors, and primary responsibility for preparation of the monthly financial statements.
The Assistant Controller has primary responsibility for the fixed asset system, submission of operating statistics to hospital association, preparation of grant billings and bank reconciliations.
In addition to the routine duties described above, the Assistant Controller also maintains the accounting records for the Retirement plan and prepares regulatory reports as needed.
Licensure/Certification/Registrations: Valid Colorado Driver’s License in good standing required.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance required.
Experience: 5-7 years of experience in financial accounting is required. 3-5 years of leadership and management experience is required. 3-5 years of experience in internal controls. 3 – 5 years of experience in third party payer issues including contractual allowances estimates and Medicare cost reporting requirements. Experience in a healthcare setting is strongly preferred.

Assists the preparation of reports which summarize and forecast business activity and financial position. Includes: budgets, financial statements, department performance/productivity reports, and other supporting detail as directed by the Controller.
Assists the preparation of reports required by government agencies. Includes Medicare cost reports, tax returns, grant reports, etc.
Organize, coordinate, administer, and control financial policies of the hospital.
Review, interpret, and analyze financial and statistical data.
Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Prepare monthly financial statements and their comparison to budget including development and assembly of related informational reports which are presented to the Finance/Audit Committee and the Board of Directors.
Perform the ongoing input, maintenance and modification of the general ledger including the preparation of journal vouchers and posting of the Patient Accounts and Accounts Payable Systems.
Maintain the Fixed Asset System and prepare various monthly reports outlining activity on a month and year-to-date basis compared to budget. Reconcile fixed asset system to the general ledger on a monthly basis.
Undertake preparations for the annual review and test of accounting records (Hospital, Foundation and Retirement plan) by the independent auditors, including the assembly of audit documents, preparation of schedules and confirmation of data which support audit review of relevant accounts.
