Purpose:
Under the direct supervision of the Sr. Portfolio Manager, the Derivatives Trader will actively manage the derivative portfolio to increase value through risk management strategies designed to meet client objectives. The incumbent will prepare risk/reward assessments, calculate analytical attributes, stay abreast of market updates, and participate in the equity derivative hedging processes.

The Derivatives trader will be primarily focused on the equity derivatives hedging, but will also assist with fixed income and FX derivative hedging. In conjunction with other traders, this role will contribute to sound and profitable investment implementation which is consistent with risk management strategies, including capital considerations, while providing the desired statutory, GAAP and tax results. Additionally, the incumbent will provide leadership and work with the other traders and the Portfolio Managers to direct the activities of the Investment Analysts.

Accountabilities:
Manage the equity derivative portfolios consistent with risk management strategies.

Provide superior derivative hedging performance results while complying with external and internal laws, guidelines, and restrictions.

Provide backup in the fixed income and FX derivative portfolio management areas

Monitor general market conditions including economic factors, interest rates, volatility and other relevant market data to help develop investment and risk management opinions concerning historical trends, sector spread relationships, and other factors impacting the derivative portfolio.

Work closely with other members of the Derivatives team, the Asset Liability Management group, and Athene’s Product Management group to develop and implement innovative strategies to manage risk while optimizing profits and enhancing portfolio performance.

Assume a leadership role within Portfolio Management, to formulate and/or implement risk management strategies.

Provide guidance and leadership to Investment Analysts within the Portfolio Management team

Work with the partners within the derivatives eco-systems and the larger organization to drive towards results that support with the goals of Athene.

Cultivate, evaluate, and maintain contacts within the investment community (e.g., Wall Street dealers, analysts, academicians, and strategists) to ensure a steady flow of attractive investment strategies and risk management opportunities and research information.

Work closely with the legal and compliance departments to develop and ensure effective compliance with the Athene derivatives policy.

Prepare accurate assessments of risk/reward analysis and execute trades consistent with objectives and constraints of our clients and the derivatives portfolio.

Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, computer science or other relevant STEM disciplines

Graduate degree in Business Administration, Finance or related areas or commensurate additional years of experience is strongly preferred

Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and/or FRM designation would be a plus

7+ years of experience in derivatives analysis, trading and risk management

4+ years of management experience

Familiarity with capital markets, solid investment market experience, and 3+ years of Portfolio Management experience

Demonstrated track record of derivatives portfolio performance results consistent with risk management objectives

Experience with software used for investment and risk management analysis and reporting such as Microsoft Office, Bloomberg, and other analytical derivative tools

Candidate must have the ability to maintain composure while working under pressure

A strong candidate will be highly detail-oriented, well-organized, independent, entrepreneurial, assertive, self-motivated, and be able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment

An ideal applicant will have strong written and oral communication skills, with excellent interpersonal, analytical and trading skills and experience
