Credit Strategy Advisor Job at Suncorp Group – in Brisbane QLD

The Role

As Credit Strategy Advisor, you will provide data driven insights, support the monitoring of key risk metrics and support any strategic and tactical credit risk initiatives.

Key Accountabilities

Contributes to the credit risk strategy supporting growth while managing risk

Leads and support several credit strategy initiatives

Provides data driven insights to enhance current risk culture, monitoring and strategy

Leads in ongoing reviews of risk performance, investigate and identify drivers independently or in co-ordination with the other teams

Leverage internal bank data along with external and alternative data sources to drive optimum credit risk strategies

Data analysis, cleansing and modelling of large datasets

Supports engagements with risk committees by producing well-articulated paper supporting our credit risk strategy

Manages internal stakeholders to deliver business outcomes while managing risk


Proactively manages credit risk challenges, including regulatory, legislative and Banking Code of Practice requirements

Role model and drives a positive risk culture across B&W delivering a balanced risk | reward outcome

Works within the defined tolerances of the Bank’s Risk Appetite Statement


Contributes to a high-performance culture, ensuring personal and program accountability

Creates, maintains and promotes an environment that encourages employee’s well-being and a safe working environment


Plays a key role to co-ordinate and manage the credit risk initiatives, ensuring that change management activities are adhered to and clear customer outcomes are understood and delivered

Contributes to the delivery of credit risk strategies that enhance customer experience, enable growth within risk appetite

Key Job Requirements


Analytical skills: High level of business acumen, analytical skills to be applied to develop complex credit risk strategies

Reporting skills: ability to present complex analysis into simple reports

High level understanding of end to end credit risk across the customer lifecycle

Strategic planning | critical thinking: Develop innovative solutions to complex business problems

Communication skills: High level of presentation and communication skills required to represent the business internally

Strong written communication skills: Strong ability to succinctly communicate complex problems, strategies and solutions ranging from Credit Risk Committee papers to stakeholder communications

Relationship skills: Ability to build positive and genuine working relationships, network effectively and develop sound credibility and influence with key stakeholders

Experience & Qualifications

Relevant post-tertiary qualification in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or relevant fields

Superior quantitative skills and worked with large data models

Previous experience of model development and model monitoring highly advantageous

Previous experience of credit risk analysis

Good understanding of credit risk related regulations

Superior level of attention to detail

A minimum of 4 years’ experience in applying credit risk analytics in a commercial environment

Strong technical skills in SQL highly advantageous

Demonstrated experience delivering initiatives within deadlines
