Financial Analyst 2 Job at Oregon Health & Science University – 3.9 in Portland, OR

Department Overview:
The Senior Financial Analyst works within the framework of the Women’s and Children’s Finance group to support the faculty and staff of the Pediatrics, ObGyn, Institute on Development and Disablity, and Center for Women’s Health.

Function/Duties of Position:
The primary purpose and function of this role is to contribute expert financial and analytical knowledge as part of the Shared Services Finance Team. This position serves as an advanced finance resource for WCAS leadership and staff. The position is also responsible for collaboration with Central Financial Services, Hospital Financial Services, OHSU Foundation, and OPAM to ensure complete adherence with University policies and procedures of a financial nature.

Responsible for cost accounting projects, DMAP reconciliation, process improvement initiatives and assisting with space planning.

Designs and develops financial reports to provide current, important and relevant information for decision making.

Conducts financial and cost/benefit analyses of current and anticipated programs and initiatives, prepares financial analysis and models to support the development of this work.

Central point of contact for Contracting for WCAS for all Professional Services Contracts, Intergovernmental Agreements, Managed Care Contracts, Sales of Service Agreements, and Internal Agreements.

Provide in depth analysis and internal audits of payroll functions, budget variances, faculty compensation plans, and Medicaid cost reporting (DMAP Settlement).

Resource for faculty and staff questions as related to responsibilities of the Shared Services Finance group.

Perform other analysis /projects as assigned by the Senior Finance Administrator.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Finance or Accounting, or a related field from an accredited college or university

If from a related field, candidate must have 18 hours of accounting courses from an accredited college or university.

2 years of professional healthcare and/or relevant financial analysis experience

Demonstrated financial analysis and accounting experience with strong organizational, interpersonal and written skills

Must be able to work in a team environment and demonstrate flexibility in dealing with others

Highly proficient with the use of computers, including:
Database and spreadsheet applications

Advanced skills in Excel (must be able to work with Pivot Tables, etc.)

Proficient skills in Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint

Exceptional understanding of the business discipline of financial management

Understanding of financial accounting principles and interpretation methods

Demonstrated skills in formulating budgets, projections, and analysis

Demonstrated experience in preparing reports, working with databases and report writing skills

Outstanding communication skills that demonstrate ability to collaborate across units and managers not typically working together

Demonstrated effective communication, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

Creative problem-solver.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management, or other relevant field of graduate study.

2 years financial experience in an academic health care organization similar to that of OHSU with responsibly tracking financial performance for multi-cost center institutions or projects.

Experience in Oracle, report writing applications such as COGNOS BI, Smartsheet and SharePoint.

Knowledge of federal requirements of NIH and other funding agency grants.

Customer service attitude that combines initiative, urgency, and commitment to results.

Customer service focus; a willingness to proactively meet with internal customers, listen, and set appropriate expectations (ie: what can be done and when it can be done).
