Financial Analyst Job at Michelman & Robinson, LLP. – 3.0 in Los Angeles, CA
Working directly with the CFO, the Financial Analyst will be responsible for the firms monthly financial statements, formally reporting monthly on the firm’s financial position, firm, and attorney productivity. The ideal candidate has a strong analytical background, an advanced knowledge of excel, and can develop and maintain financial statements and monthly reporting packages.
The analyst will be responsible for assisting in the preparation of the annual budget and monitoring and reporting on monthly budget variances. They will engage in analytical thinking, looking at and reporting on attorney productivity and profitability trends to the firm’s executive committee, C-Suite and partners. They will be the liaison to the external auditors and will assist with the preparation of the annual reviewed financial statements.
The analyst will work independently and proactively to develop new reports and to distribute monthly financial reporting packages to office managing partners across the firm. The financial analyst will also work with the firm’s executive committee and C-Suite on various ad hoc project requests that require in-depth analytical and critical-thinking skills while accomplishing these and other functions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare, review, and distribute monthly financial statements and productivity reports.
Compare monthly results with budget and prior periods analyzing and reporting on fluctuations.
Developing commentary surrounding those budget and period over period fluctuations.
Provide financial summaries, reports, and analysis to firm leadership.
Develop financial models, including forecasting of revenue, expenses, and cash flow.
Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the annual budget.
Communicate effectively with various departments and offices to provide key financial data as requested.
Prepare reviewed financial statements and work with auditors on supporting requests.
Prepare responses to external stakeholders and survey requests, as needed.
Analyze and interpret data to make recommendations to management on productivity and profitability.
Assist with leading the reporting initiative with the firms expected new general ledger and billing system implementation Aderant Sierra.
Prepare ad-hoc reports and analysis independently.
Identify and implement process improvements proactively.
Maintain a high degree of customer focus.
Maintain positive relationships with internal and external clients and consistently promote and model courteous service in a prompt and efficient manner with the recognition that the request serves a client or Firm need.
The position requires a high level of confidentiality due to the sensitive nature of the information, and would require safeguarding of financial information, observations, and viewpoints regarding the Firm and client business matters.

Work Experience, Skills and Abilities:
The position requires an individual who is an integral team member with a flexible and a positive approach to their work and desire to exceed expectations, as well as the following:
Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience is required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business, is required.
A solid understanding of basic accounting principles and financial statements, is required.
Advanced- level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office is required.
Experience in working with large data sets and databases is required.
Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and juggling multiple priorities.
Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to minimize the likelihood of errors occurring and identify errors in the early stages.
Ability to prioritize, multitask and organize workflow, willingness to take the initiative to work collaboratively in meeting deadlines with a sense of urgency.
Posses a proactive attitude and take the initiative to recommend and act on changes to improve current workflows.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are necessary to successfully interact with executive committee, C-Suite, attorneys, and coworkers is required.
Experience using Aderant Sierra or other legal firm financial and practice management software is preferred, but not required.
This position will work in a professional office environment and will be required to sit for prolonged periods of time using a computer and telephone.
During periods of heavy workload, it is required to work before and after scheduled work hours, as well as during weekend days.
This position is a full-time exempt position.
