Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Financial Counseling Supervisor, the Financial Counsselor is responsible for performing preadmission, insurance verification, financial counseling and monitoring the quality of all required accounts that are registered by the Children’s hospital Admitting Staff. Partners with Children’s hospital Admitting management to ensure accurate and complete, registration information.



1 year of experience in Patient Admitting/Patient Account Counselor or related medical field.
Comprehensive knowledge of 3rd party payor regulations.
High school graduate or equivalent
Excellent communication skills, team player, performs duties and assignments in an independent manner with little or no direct supervision required * Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards; care with sensitivity and respect; advance care through development of new ideas and technology; promote teamwork to achieve CHOC’s mission; and understand and exceed customer expectations. Demonstrates the ability to exercise independent problems solving skills in times of need and emergency situation.
Typing 40 WPM Experience in communicating with the public
Working knowledge of Medical Terminology
Requires experience in self-directed activities. Excellent command of the English language
Effective written and verbal communication skills necessary. Experience in operating computer, copiers, fax, printers, multi line phones, scanners. Working knowledge of standard business applications (Word, Excel, etc)
Accountable for continually implementing and demonstrating patient safety in all assigned duties. Demonstrates active participation in processes that support the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals. Accountable within appropriate scope of practice to ensure that the safe delivery of healthcare services is maintained on an ongoing basis.
Basic Life Support


Experience in developing process improvement analysis and implementation programs.
College degree in business, courses in medical terminology and insurance.
