Investment Analyst Job at SyndicateRoom – in Investment Analyst

We are an early-stage venture capital fund that invests in 50+ startups a year alongside some of the UK’s top angel investors. We’ve worked hard to build a model that allows us to back so many promising entrepreneurs across multiple industries and welcome more investors to the startup asset class through our fund.

We’re looking for someone to join us in an Investor Analyst role and immerse themselves in the exciting world of startups.

You will be in constant contact with startup founders and investors so you should love communicating with people and be able to maintain a positive attitude when under pressure.

Day-to-day, you will be taking startups through our process – from the initial conversations that determine if they are eligible for an investment from our fund to reviewing the required materials and completing the investment. We’re not a traditional fund so we won’t be expecting you to do in-depth due-diligence on the startups but you will definitely have the opportunity to learn about many industries and innovations as well as be the main point of contact for inspiring startup founders. To say a bit more on this, we look to make quick, concise decisions about whether or not a company is a fit for our investment model based on huge scale, pre-existing data analysis on the startup market that for the most part we’ve already performed. Although it will always be worthwhile you having an interest in documents such as business plans, financial forecasts, cost analyses and so on, it’s important to stress that reviewing these sort of documents in detail is not part of this analyst role, and so you do not need significant familiarity with them, nor should you expect working with them to form a key part of your role.

Team integration is key to our success at SR, so expect to be working with people from all parts of the business on a number of different projects. In addition to your role, there will be ample opportunity to take initiative and work on projects that interest you.

  • Managing our fund’s pipeline of startups – you will filter startups using our fund’s criteria, request documents and complete the various process tasks for each eligible company, track progress and lead the transition between stages – from initial conversation to investment. You will be the startups’ main point of contact throughout this process so you’re going to be responsible for communicating effectively and in a timely manner with founders.
  • Summarising and sharing startup information – you will be regularly providing a short overview of the checks you performed on the startups during investment committee meetings. Occasionally, you will be helping with reporting on the fund’s investment activity.
  • Contributing to conversations around process and criteria improvements – while we have strived to make our fund’s process and criteria as straightforward as possible, we always welcome ideas for how we can improve.

  • Must enjoy building relationships and working with people
  • Excellent communication abilities (both written and verbal)
  • Exceptional attention to detail with great organisational and time management skills
  • Comfortable working with systems and managing pipelines
  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Must have a good work ethic and be willing to learn quickly
  • Experience working with startups would be desirable (but not essential)
