Justice Officer Finance Job at Department of Justice and Community Safety – in Tatura VIC
The Justice Officer is an entry-level position to a career in corporate services in the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS). DJCS comprises of eight Regions, through which the compliance, enforcement and regulatory services are provided to the Victorian community.
In a Justice Service Centre environment, a Justice Officer provides a combination of reception and concierge functions, and administrative and business support services. In a prison environment, the Justice Officer provides a range of corporate support services, within the unique operational environment of a correctional facility. In either context, the role requires a strong focus on customer service, teamwork, integrity, accuracy, compliance and timeliness.
The Hume Region delivers a range of services through Justice Service Centres at Wangaratta, Shepparton, Wodonga and Seymour and at outreach locations in Myrtleford, Benalla, Cobram, Mansfield and Corryong. The region also has two minimum security prisons, the Beechworth Correctional Centre and H.M. Prison Dhurringile.
About the role
The Finance Officer will process a range of financial, accounts payable and purchasing transactions ensuring compliance with requirements and timelines. This role will ensure electronic and paper-based record keeping systems are up to date and accurate. This may include petty cash; banking, accounts payable and prisoner finance (SPEND). The role will also ensure compliance with regard to maintenance of asset registers and conduct periodic reviews of assets at all regional locations.
The region delivers a range of Justice Services including custodial services at our prisons, community corrections services, Sheriff’s Operations, Consumer Affairs and front of house enquiries (including Births, Deaths and Marriages applications).
This position may require direct prisoner contact and may involve weekend and public holiday work, remunerated in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Enterprise Agreement.
As our ideal candidate you will possess:
- Well-developed computer literacy
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations
- Demonstrated experience with Oracle or similar finance related system
- Demonstrated experience in fixed asset accounting and asset register maintenance is desirable
