Cedar Wood Recruitment is now recruiting for our client, a luxury safari lodge in Hluhluwe for a Lodge Manager

Salary Negotiable depending on experience

After Probation period of 3 months – Cost to Company Medical Contribution R 500 per month and provident fund of 3,5% Employee Contribution and 5,5% Company contribution

Work Schedule – Typically, 6 weeks on, 2 weeks off (may be adjusted during low occupancy)

Live In – accommodation, meals and laundry provided; drinks charged at staff price

Reports to the General Manager

Hospitality Diploma or tertiary qualification in Hotel Management

Strong Guiding Background with Guiding qualification FGASA level 2

Computer Literate – Pastel /Micros / Opera/SEMPER property management system/EXCEL/ Microsoft Office

English speaking, fluent in written and spoken English

Zulu (Speak) – certainly a great benefit. Some understanding essential

Driver’s License valid PDP essential

Valid First Aid Certification

South African Citizen

Physically fit, sober habits and in good health

Honest person with high sense of integrity

Strong leadership skills with a sense of ownership (accountability) and pride in work

Well groomed, good personal hygiene & presentable with a friendly personality

Strong work ethic, ab ility to work unsupervised, work flexible hours and extended hours.

Empathetic and compassionate personality

Passion ate about conservation in all aspects of wilderness areas

Good interpersonal skills

Self-motivation, enthusiasm, passion and energy

Excellent decision maker

Methodical work ethic with a high regard for attention to detail

Flexible attitude and willing to take on tasks as necessary

Sensiti ve to and understanding/ tolerant of cultural differences

Excellent organizational and administrative skills

Realistic expectations of bush life

Previous work experience of at least 5 years in management roles in related lodge environments.

Management experience in luxury lodge environment

Experienced in managing such a large and diverse and intense property

Focus of Guest experience delivery from each department

Systematic and strong with protocols

Use to a reporting system and presenting month end packs to Operations

An understanding of budget control and financial management and planning for the future of the lodge

HR and payroll functions of the lodge

Hands on staff management and staff disciplinary process

Delicately manage community staff and drive the development/up liftment process of those selected employees

Eye for detail and good all-rounder in all aspects of the hotel – food/ beverage/ housekeeping/ front office

Experience and ability to train staff

Reservations and front office administration & practices

Basic maintenance & vehicle skills & knowledge

Management of guiding department


bookings are done at Head Office therefore Lodge just to update the lodge sheet with current details & work the reservations from paper to arrival to departure

Finance, Admin, Stock Controls & Stocktaking


Communicating with HODs on bookings information,


General Duties

Curio Shop

orders, stock control, stocktaking

check variety of stock and track sales prices, offer special to get stock moving
