Patient Account Representative – Patient Finance-Area Job at Providence Sonoma County – in Santa Rosa, CA

We are looking for a Patient Account Representative for Patient Finance-Area Department at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

Location: Santa Rosa, CA

Work Schedule: Full time – 80 Biweekly hours

Shift: 8 hour, Days

Job Summary:
Addresses all incoming inquiries from any customer; patient, insurance company, SJHS employee, whether by phone, mail or in person. Routes to other areas in PFS only those calls or documents specifically categorized as outside their scope of work. Documents all activity in the facility’s legacy Patient Accounting System. Is fully familiar with Medicaid/Medi-Cal and other government programs, in order to refer patients for financial assistance. Is fully familiar with the facility’s charity and payment plan options, in order to assist patient without Third Party Coverage.

Essential Functions:
Assists patients with billing, service and insurance questions on the phone, via email or in person.

Documents all calls and actions taken in the hospital computer system. Sets next work date if follow-up is needed.

Updates system with insurance or patient demographic corrections, Submits/resubmits claims as indicated.

Sets up payment plans as needed within Medical Center guidelines.

Screens patients for charity care as necessary and provides applications as appropriate.

Is familiar with Medicaid/Medi-Cal and other financial assistance programs and refers patients as appropriate.

Tracks and resolves patient complaints within 48 hours.

Assists departments within hospital as able or refers appropriately to Patient Finance Management Team Members.

Returns voice mail messages same day received.

Generates itemized bills as needed to any customer, internal or external.

Refers mail and phone calls of outsourced accounts to the appropriate vendor.

Excellent verbal and customer service skills.

Windows based computer skills.

10 key by touch.

Type minimum of 45 words per minute.

Basic math calculation skills.

Basic knowledge of medical terminology.

Understanding of insurance payment processes (deductible, copay, coins, etc.).

Preferred: Basic understanding of ICD-9, CPT-4 and HCPC coding.

Preferred: Bilingual – Spanish.

Minimum Position Qualifications:
Education : H.S. Diploma or GED or equivalent educ/experience

Experience : 2 years of Customer service experience in a high call volume setting.

Preferred Position Qualifications:
Experience : 1 year of Government billing/collection experience.
