Position Summary

Position serves as financial expert in complex organization with multiple different operating units. Key contributor for cyclical financial and administrative business office functions (budgets, space, etc.). Maintains annual schedule of cyclical deliverables and coordinates with operating units for ad hoc strategic initiatives under direction of Business Manager or delegate.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Performs annual cost accounting in alignment with GAAP, University recharge center policies and area specific Cost Accounting Rate Setting manual.

Partners with Unit leaders to develop budgets and estimates across Central Fiscal Unit (CFU) and the School of Medicine (SOM), and provide variance analysis, projections and executive level summaries, depending on the audience.

Serves as financial expert for all Operating Units under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, net operating budget of ~$50M and ~300 FTEs.

Monitors department funds and ensures appropriate and timely expenditures and reconciliation of funds, prepares ad hoc reports when required, and proactively recommends continuous improvement changes to leadership.

Oversees management of space in software systems in real time and in alignment with University deadlines for all units across campuses, including recharge center spaces.

Prepares and validates annual reports of billing data with Indirect Cost (IDC) and Office of Facilities Management (OFMD), to support the F&A calculations and the annual MS Rent for Space (RFS) charge, respectively.

Creates and maintains supporting schedules for analysis of actual versus budget and forecasts for modeling out-years with full scope of general ledger and all revenue and expense categories.

Assists with short and long-term strategic planning of administrative resources.

Cross-trains to serve as primary back-up for Manager of Administrative Services and Assistant Business Manager (approval of operating and capital expenditures, animal procurement and billing, salary planning, journals, etc.).

Serves as technical expert for accounting systems used by the business office (validates key attributes, requests for changes, additions, enhancements, etc.).

Recovery models and rate setting.

Variance analysis, forecasting and budget experience.

Workday and Adaptive experience.

Experience working with a diverse population in a University setting.

Working knowledge of computer programs including spreadsheet applications.

Interpersonal, organizational and communication skills with discretionary judgement.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent of Bachelor’s Degree with more than five years of experience in management/financial experience or related field.



Salary Range

$49,000.00 – $83,800.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
