Senior Risk Manager Job at Commonwealth Bank – in Sydney Central Business District NSW

Project Based role, supporting a pipeline of Divestments within the Portfolio until 2023

Do work that matters:
The Financial Services Division partners with all areas of the Commonwealth Bank to provide specialist advice on financial management and strategy. This advice covers strategy, finance, audit, treasury, investor relations, security and property.

The Group Strategy function, within Finance, is responsible for supporting and advising the business on Group Strategy decisions.

The Enterprise Services (ES) business unit delivers the Group’s information operational and banking operations functions to ensure the highest levels of customer service through world-class process excellence and operational innovation.

Team:
You will be a member of the DCEO Technology and Divestments Risk & Controls team, a dynamic and diverse team within Enterprise Services.

The team has a breadth of experience across the Group including in previous business separation programs/projects.

You will provide specialized risk management & controls support and advice to help manage business transition and separation technology risks.

Impact and Role Contribution:
The role will deliver and support the management of risks & controls assurance and advice associated with the separation and transition of CBA’s divested businesses.

The primary objective of the role will be to DELIVER operational risk & control assessments and MANAGE work-plans for mitigating risks identified from these assessments.

Effective management of risk is a key enabler and foundational component for the Group. Adherence to the Group’s Operational Risk Management Framework during the separation of the Divested business from the Group ensures the Group can continue to operate in a safe, sound and secure manner.

Your Responsibilities:
Manage and deliver the Controls Testing Program.

Be able to identify the key risks and key controls relevant to the major project/change initiative

Use Group-deployed tools and professional judgement to determine appropriate risk work required

Facilitate risk workshops and provide robust challenge

Produce and/or assess risk artefacts in line with the ORMF, this will include operational risk assessments, materiality risk assessments, data sensitivity assessments, operational risk assessments, offshore risk assessments, risk in change, risk acceptance and management approval standards.

Ensure effective design of key controls for all new and changing processes through review of process design documents and collaboration with SMEs in CBA.

Ensure operating effectiveness of key controls for all new and changing processes. This may include direct testing with CBA or Divested businesses.

Ensure new key risks or changes to risks are clearly articulated and documented, understood by risk owners and stakeholders and approved/risk accepted at the appropriate level

Continually review, improve and embed our Operational Risk operating model

Collaborate with Risk within the wider Line 1 and Line 2 Operational Risk teams and across the Group to provide advice and drive initiatives

Work with the Divestments project team to drive continuous improvement in our risk culture.

Lead and/or support the Risk in Change delivery.

Ensure the implementation and ongoing management of the Operational Risk Management Framework as it relates to the divested business and risk management requirements.

Consider risk appetite statements where relevant.

Ability to prioritise, delegate, guide and manage a project resources in alignment with the strategic and operational direction set by leadership and relevant frameworks

Strong experience in operational risk management

Strong inductive reasoning ability and negotiation/influencing skills

Independence of mind and ability to escalate issues where appropriate

Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrate initiative to lead discussions with operational staff at all levels, in addition to business leaders and risk management colleagues

Advanced oral and written communication skills, including the ability to influence across a range of stakeholder groups

Ability to analyse trends, identify critical threats and opportunities, diagnose problems and issues and recommend appropriate actions

Confidence and ability to work independently and to manage/execute tasks within set timeframes

Excellent understanding of risk management frameworks and relevant certifications e.g. Basel II, GS007, AS3402, COBIT, ISO2700x)

Experience in business separation programs would be advantageous

Experience in the Wealth Management business, including life insurance, superannuation, pensions and annuities would be beneficial

Experience in a consulting role (strategy, process re-design) and/or an audit role from a professional services firm or big 4 bank

Relevant tertiary qualifications in operational, finance or risk management would be an advantage. CPA, CA or other Operational Risk related certifications would be viewed favourably.
