Summary

The objective of the Entry Level Staff Accountant position is to provide support to the account and finance department in relation to financial reporting, record keeping, and the daily processes of accounts payable and journal entries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Revenue recognition (non-Broker Dealer activity) including creating invoices using Oracle NetSuite

Expedite the month end close by creating GAAP accruals for expenses

Tracking of firm proprietary investments by reconciling and booking monthly mark-to-market

Daily cash reconciliation for clearing broker

Prepare month-end reconciliations

Provide support to outside auditors and regulators

Own and promote standardizing processes and controls

Competencies and Preferred Skills
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

Experience with Oracle NetSuite or comparable Enterprise Resource Planning Software

Good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

Good understanding of financial statements

Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process

Ability to interact with all levels of management

Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office, including ability to do VLOOKUP’s and pivot tables in Excel

Accuracy and attention to detail

Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills

Good communication skills (verbal and written)

Detailed-oriented skills

Time management, critical thinking, problem solving and decision-making skills

Strong work ethic

Self-starter; work with minimal supervision

Analytical skills; apply, interpret and explain analysis of financial data.

Ability to work with and provide discretion in handling confidential information

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in accounting from a four-year college or university is required.
